Why a heart pierced by seven swords?
When Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple, to present Him to the Lord, they met Simeon, an old man who had been told by God that before he died he would encounter the Messiah. In that encounter, Simeon prophesied that “a sword would pierce” Mary’s heart. The seven swords represent the seven wounds Christ received in His crucifixion and the seven sorrows of Our Lady.
