Why a dog with a torch?

St. Dominic was born in 12th century Spain. He founded the Order of Preachers, the Dominicans, in order to combat heresy and many believe he was given the rosary by Our Lady. Legend says that his mother, Blessed Jane of Aza, had a dream about a child she would have and the dream included a dog leaping from her womb with a torch in his mouth setting everything on fire. She went to a monk to ask for an explanation of the dream and he told her that it meant her child would be a renowned preacher and he would set the world on fire with his words.
