Why a crown with a veil?
St. Dymphna was born in Ireland to a pagan king and his Christian wife. At 14, she consecrated herself to God and resolved to remain chaste, but her mother died soon after this and her father began to suffer from mental illness, so much so that in wanting to remarry again, he believed he should marry his own daughter. A priest friend helped Dymphna escape Belgium, but her father eventually found her and beheaded her when she was only 15 years old. The crown is a symbol of her martyrdom and the veil represents her vow of chastity.
