Why the fleur de lis?

Elizabeth grew up in France (which often has the fleur de lis as its symbol) and entered the Carmelite monastery in Dijon. She became a sister just a few years after St. Therese’s death and after reading her autobiography, Story of a Soul. Her deep contemplative prayer life was focused on the Trinity. Her prayer calls the Trinity, “My God, My Three” and she contemplated this mystery deeply until her death at age 25.
