Why a Passionist symbol?
St. Gemma was an Italian mystic who desired to become a sister, but had very poor health. She would receive the stigmata when she prayed and suffered many trials and illnesses throughout her life. She is sometimes called the “Daughter of Passion” and she predicted that the Passionists would establish a monastery in her town of Lucca and they did so 2 years after she died. Her relics remain there today.
