Why comedy masks?
St. Genesius is the patron saint of theater and has a very interesting story. As a playwright and actor, he set out to write a play that would mock Christianity and gain him favor with the pagan emperor at the time. He even went so far as to go undercover in the church to gain information for his play. Ultimately he went ahead with his plans, but when his character was baptized on stage the very real grace of God flooded into his life. He experienced a huge change of heart and was martyred shortly after his conversion after he preached to the Emperor attending his play.
