Why a flag?

In Mexico in the 1920s, St. Jose joined the Cristero army as a flagbearer to help the cause of faith in the midst of an anti-religious government. After witnessing a priest being murdered by the government, his belief in Christ and the cause strengthened and as much as he wanted to fight, no one would let him. He was imprisoned, tortured, maimed, and martyred after refusing to deny his faith.
