Although a rebel in his youth, St. Peregrine repented and became a devoted Servite priest who spent most of his life working for the poor and needy. After he founded a Servite monastery, he discovered a cancerous growth on his foot. Because of the pain, he agreed with the surgeon to have it amputated, but the night before the surgery he spent hours and prayer and had a vision of Christ healing his leg. He woke up to a bandaged and healed leg.
