Why a bow and arrow?
According to the private revelation of an Italian nun, Philomena was very young when she consecrated her virginity to God. The emperor Diocletian fell in love with her, however, and subjected her to great torture when she refused his advances, including being shot with arrows.
Philomena has never been formally declared a saint and has no specific feast day, but many miracles have been reported through her intercession, including those of St. John Vianney who had a great devotion to her during his lifetime.
