Why a crown of thorns?
St. Rita was a saint who experienced many of life’s deepest pains, including the death of her husband and twin sons. After their deaths, she became a nun and endeavored to be deeply joined to the redemptive suffering of Jesus. When she was 60 a wound appeared on her forehead, such as one from the crown of thorns. She bore the wound for the next 15 years.
